Rutabaga is a short cartoon that started out as a poem written by my friend Julie Reed. She did the narration and I animated in Flash and made the music. It was actually the first thing I ever did on the computer in like… 1999.
I remember clearly that Julie had a cold and was really cranky on the day we recorded, which was the perfect tone that I was going for so I pushed her do the recording. She complained at first, but we were all happy with the results once it was done. I upped the pitch a little to get more of a little girl tone, so it’s not “exactly” what she sounded like, but close.
Julie passed away in 2014, so Rutabaga serves as a very personal memory of the life of a beautiful & very creative soul. She made the world a little brighter and is dearly missed.
